Tumhain yaad ho k na yaad ho!

Filed under: Poetry

So, I’m in a poetic mood today :) Many of u might be surprised to know that because I usually don’t show my interest in shair-o-shairi but at times I can go on reading it for hours and hours…depends entirely on mood :) Have even written a few pieces myself which no-one ..yup..no-one has got a chance to read (except a friend and a teacher who were requested to read just one of them with the purpose of suggesting improvement.."Islaah" is the right word :P ) The rest have never been shared with anyone but my diary and sigh sigh sighhhhhhhh….I lost one of them even before I cud save it in my diary :( . I wrote it I guess in the middle of the night (for those who r into writing and poetry might agree with me that sometimes the most beautiful of thoughts come right in the middle of the night while u r lying in ur comfy bed) so, it was on some random piece of paper that I got my hands on and used it to jot down the  lines echoing in my mind. However, I found that piece of paper lying in my car, in the afternoon the next day while I was driving back from university with dear bhai. In utter state of confusion I picked it up and tried slipping it inside one of my registers before bhai gets to see it. That was the last time I saw it and after that haven’t yet been able to see that lovely piece again :( Don’t know where it disappeared…did I drop it in the car again leaving it for the car cleaner to read and enjoy? If that is so then shall I hope to find it written on some  public bus someday?emoticon I’m missing it because i can’t even recall it completely now else would have written it down again! :(

Khair while I sigh..u enjoy "Woh jo hum main tum main qaraar tha…tumhain yaad ho k na yaad ho"..Beautiful!!

PS:  This isn’t for any significant other and my poems don’t really have nething that need not be disclosed but u know sometimes there are things that u just want to keep up to yourself :)

  1. I have more or less moved on from reading romantic poetry, unless it uses romance as a metaphor to convey a deeper meaning. Though I still do appreciate a good piece, when I come across one, the level of enthusiasm has gone down somewhat.

    I can’t, of course, write any poetry at all. :)

  2. It happens Fariha..No need to write that its not for significant other… :P

    Right now I am listening to “Everything I do I do it for you” by Brian Adams but its not for anyone significant…or Is it?? :P

  3. We all know that whose that significant other is :P so no need to hide it on your blog. But thanks for sharing this ghazal with us; one of the most brilliant work done in urdu poetry.

  4. This is a beautiful ghazal. I remember it was part of my Urdu textbook in high school (FSc)! Are you someone who reads her diary again & again and tries to make editions to the poetry, or once it’s written, it’s final?

    Comment by Meher — September 12, 2008 @ 9:02 am

  5. @Sidhusaaheb

    In urdu poetry when it comes to “Ishq” we have two types “Ishq-e-Majazi” which refers to the romantic love and then we have “Ishq-e-Haqiqi” which is love for the the Almighty.
    Seems like u have now moved from Ishq-e-Majazi to Ishq-e-Haqaqi :)

    I can appreciate poetry written to show either, it all depends on how touching a particular piece is.

    Btw parra jee…can u read urdu…if not let me know..I’ll post this ghazal in roman urdu as well for the convenience of all those who can read roman urdu but not urdu in Nasta’liq script.

    @Talha

    Ha ha…Talha, every time I write something which can possibly be connected to someone special, people come to me asking who that **special one** is and I always disappoint them by saying “Uff…koi nahi hai bahee” :D

    Abt ur significant other….hmmmm…yeh tu aap hi janain :P

    @Ammar

    Really…u know him?? Please please pleaseeeeeeeee….ask him to meet me..I’m desperately waiting to see who my prince charming is :)

    Btw…Ph.D tu hai na? :P

    @Meher

    It indeed is a beautiful ghazal :) I do read my diary again’n'again but often don’t edit the ghazals already there unless something no longer seems too appropriate.
    However, I add new ones to my diary as soon as they are born..so in my case additions are more common than editions :P

  7. @Fariha: There are certain unwritten rules when you share such stuff..

    You never mention anything about any special one.
    And you never repeatedly deny that there isnt any special one.:P

    Shukariya Shukariya :)

    @Talha

    Ahh…only if there was really some special one..I’d hav rather emailed him :P
    Btw if you have come across my prince charming…do make me meet him too :)

    @Ordinary

    Yaar…I don’t remember if I studied it in my FSc days…I probably had a different version of the text book which by the way shows that I’m either too older than you and Meher or too younger because FSc books don’t change too often :)

  10. Lovely ghazal! Thanx 4 sharing.. :) And u said it so true that mostly the “poet-jinn” wakes up at middle of the nite :P

    Poetry is a quiet cute and wondrful way of expressing our feelings I believe! Be blessd..

  11. During college days, we are into urdu poetry a lot (thanks to the college books). This indeed is a lovely poem and has always been one of my favoruites. I remember making parodies of these ghazals or translating them to English and losing the poetic sense while doing so… =D It was always so much fun!

  15. @ Farah!
    I agree with you that mid-night is most suitable time :)

    Thanks for sharing this beautiful Ghazl (personally, I hate word ‘poem’ for these beautiful Ghazls) :->

    P.S. I don’t follow comments!

    Comment by Muhammad Qasim Pasta — September 13, 2008 @ 11:46 pm

  16. @Qasim

    Qasim bhaii..I hope u follow this comment …i mean u OUGHT to bcoz u’ve misspelled my name. I’m Fariha not Farah :D

    “Poem” perhaps may not sound too good for “Ghazals” but sometimes when I can’t decide if a certain piece can formally qualify as a ghazal or not, I tend to use the word “poem”. I hope someday I sit down and acquaint myself with all the ingredients of different forms of urdu poetry so that I may be in a condition to name them appropriately, the next time. :)
