Why Faysal Bank sucks and Bank Al-Habib rocks?
Faysal bank has been ticking me off right from the beginning of my banking relationship with them. The first day when I handed over my filled form to them, they returned it saying that the Internet banking and Telebanking services are currently not available so, you need to cross the options you selected regarding these services. Moreover, you have checked the option to get an ATM Card as well but we have a separate form for that so, cancel that out as well as this doesn’t need to be specified here. I was just wondering how much time would have been saved(of both mine and their) had they themselves canceled those sections out before giving away the form to me.By the time all this happened I had already got a very bad impression of them but was still hoping they’ll do better next time, however, to my utter disappointment they have just irritated me more after that.
A day or two after I submitted my form, they called me on my cellphone asking me to deposit Rs.500 as opening balance and for ATM card charges(note that this was the first time they were calling). But I was away from my desk and couldn’t receive their call so instead of trying to call again on my cellphone they directly called on my home number telling my mother that Ms.Fariha hasn’t given so and so amount and that she needs to do it ASAP. I got to know about it only when my mother called me asking me in a surprised tone, "Fariha, you haven’t paid some amount of bank and they are calling at home asking for money." I felt nothing but ashamed of myself as mummy never likes any delay when it comes to money matters. Neway I deposited that money the very same day.
Then after about 15 days I was notified that my cheaque book is ready and I could collect it from my branch. I collected the cheaque book with my name printed on all the cheaques but got ticked off again to notice that they had misspelled my middle name. I ignored that and remained quiet because I didn’t want to present myself as a girl who gets irritated of every single thing but Faysal bank had some more plans to annoy me.
When I called them Saturday morning to check if a certain amount that had to be transferred to my account has been deposited or not….they said it hasn’t been. However, I got a call from them in the afternoon and they said that the letter of thanks that they had mailed me has returned probably because of some problem in the address and hence my account has been temporarily blocked. This could possibly be the reason why that certain amount didn’t get transferred. When they verified the address, I came to know that they have written my apartment number incorrectly….arggg…how could they be so sO SO careless! They have now requested me to visit their branch again to get the address corrected(even though IT IS THERE MISTAKE THAT THEY HAVE ENTERED INCORRECT ADDRESS IN THEIR DATABASE) and to get my account unblocked. Idiots!! I seriously will ask them to send me an apology letter rather than the thanks letter. I’m surprised to see how can someone from a banking sector where every letter every digit is extremely important, make so many typing mistakes….don’t they have anyone to proof read what they type? If not then they badly need to have one.
They probably need to learn something from Bank Al-Habib as well which ever since I have opened an account with them, has not given me even a single reason to complain. Excellent customer service, ability to do online banking and pretty efficient services.
I wish Faysal Bank in the future gives me some reason to make another blog post about them which says that even though my earlier experience was not good but now I’m quiet satisfied with their services.

Even UBl is good!

That reminds me, I need to open a new bank account. Which bank would you recommend? I’m the lazy sort, so I’d prefer one which would require the least amount of effort on my part, and one which is not too much of an annoyance.
I don’t really know much about Pakistani banks other than the not so good reviews I have read here and there.

Hmmm…tough question….my family’s fond of MCB and I’m pretty much satisfied with Bank Al-Habib so, would recommend these two.
Btw seems like u hav got a job or have perhaps started saving because at least I’d have never considered opening an account without these two reasons

Did you complain to State Bank of Pakistan? SBP has a complaint form on their website and it really works. I mean banks are really held responsible if it is their fault. Do complaint them, gets banks’ act straightened. I have tried SBP complaints on Soneri and Askari, worked marvellously. Om has tried them on MANY banks!
