Get a life!

If you have ever got a chance to talk to me at length….you would have definitely heard me saying something like "Yaar..life’s so busy!" I’m an incessant worker and precisely a "workaholic". I work an average 10 hours a day at office and whenever I get back to home…..my goal always is to sneak into my room as soon as I can, turn my PC ON and stay on it till I get at least two warnings issued by mummy darling about what would she do if I don’t go off to my bed in the next few minutes
It is only then I get up and go to bed naah..not to sleep but to first plan on what do I have to do the next day, read something and then finally close my eyes.
It is only then I get up and go to bed naah..not to sleep but to first plan on what do I have to do the next day, read something and then finally close my eyes. Bhai often tells mom I’m a hopeless case and even though mummy never says so but she also believes the same. I have tried making various changes in my life and lifestyle but all in vain…LIFE is just so freakingly BUSY!
A few days back I decided to telecommute and had planned to wrap up all my tasks by 5 (I usually work from 8-5 (Read 7:54-5:45 at least) ) but guess what? I ended up working till midnight….huh! My IT manager was not around…my team lead was not there….there was absolutely none whom I could impress by working too much but still i worked and worked and worked till i was about to lose my sanity. The only reason to work was that I do not get this inner satisfaction up until i complete the task that I have picked up and which I feel could be completed the same day (my estimate could be unrealistic though
)
)Neway….that day when i went to bed all depleted of strength and energy and tried to sleep..I couldn’t sleep till around 2:30 a.m cause my mind was still active and since I’m not an insomniac this worried me a little but I forgot all worries just after about 4 hours of sleep getting up at 6:15 a.m…leaving for work at about 7:15 a.m…turning my office pc ON at 7:45 a.m. and working till 6:15 p.m. It was then that one of my colleagues told me, "You need a life! Please don’t take me wrong but u really do"
and guess what I told him..he he…"Kya karoon…itna kaam hai!"

But from inside..I was thinking that this guy’s actually saying right…I really do need a life. Everybody works..what is it so radically different about me…..why do I work too much to exhaust myself completely to the level that I have now started having a bad bad bad neckache and backache which just doesn’t seem to go away. Perhaps it’s my thirst for knowledge that leaves me overworked or is it just that i think I’ll feel good when I work as having no work leaves me in a crappy mood; but when I work I end up working a lot and hence feeling bad…argg…what a vicious circle!
Neway…i take my colleague’s words "I do need LIFE" and to get it I might take some major decisions in the coming few months. At the moment I want to be a Milkateer and run away to the milka land with Fiza, Zain and MooMoo.

Inner satisfaction? Hhehe…we usually tell the guys…GET A WIFE!!! You can take a hinter also hehhe…
there is no use for so much work….a balance is essential to be successful…quality is what matters not quantity….

Well, you might want to plan the deadlines for the tasks that you seek to accomplish, in terms of eight-hour working days.

I can understand how you feel. I too have been told to get a life.
Its 2am, and I have been up since 5am. But what I’m doing was just too interesting to let something as unimportant as sleep get in the way.
But now I think I should sleep. Just after I have some more milk
@UTP
“GET A WIFE!!!” - LOL at that

To quote Sheryl Crow…
If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad.
I admire your work ethic and if thats what you enjoy most, you should ignore all naysayers. If ‘you’ think that you need to decease your workload because there are other things you would prefer to dedicate your time to, you should definitely take steps to correct it till you are satisfied. Good luck!

@UTP
“Get a wife”…hilarious
waisay I don’t want to take ne hinter here…I would love to live as a singleton for as long as I can
A balance is certainly needed for a successful life but what to say…..the management at my company loves me so much that they keep giving me more responsibilities with every passing day…I don’t mind taking those responsibilities but they are leaving me overworked
@Sidhusaaheb
I do but often a whole lot of new tasks appears at the eleventh hour and I usually ‘am left with no choice but to put in extra time to wrap them up
@Qasim
He he…Thanks Qasim…i myself realize that a balance is needed in life and that’s why ‘am about to take some steps to get it in the coming few months InshAllah

@Waqas
You should take as much milk as u can…doodhu is really good for health
It’s good that you are enjoying your work but sometimes I get so much overworked that I no longer enjoy what I’m doing
@Misha
Hey…Misha…welcome to my blog yaar
I was enjoying my work till a few months ago but now I’m not enjoying it much
….now it’s just that I believe in doing what I’m responsible for doing, to the best of my abilities. However I certainly enjoy working on my own tasks even if that requires being glued to my pc all day and night
@Asma
Oh ho…so shall I wait for a post dedicated to me only?

@UTP: Hi UTP..Howz it going??…GET A WIFE…nice one…two TLz in my office have one they leave at 6 sharp..
@Fariha: I think this routine is the same for alot of people in IT. When I faced similar situation I installed games on my PC and played CS or FIFA before leaving for home just to leave the stress in the office.I even convinced people from my team to play games to reduce stress.

Welcome to my blog Talha and that suggestion that you have given here is simply GREAT!! Just after reading ur comment, I thought about blogging before leaving for home because blogging also tends to decrease stress and believe me I got up feeling refreshed….tomorrow I’ll try to install some games as well
Thanks for the lovely suggestion….it really seems to work!

@Fariha: You are welcome.If you dont find anyone playing games then do try Virtua Tennis 3D ….. All the best to you and I hope you don’t get any warning for playing games in the office like I did…though I didnt stop playing, I convinced more people to play:D
