Processes oh these processes!!
Why on earth can’t we follow the processes that can really benefit us in the long run??? There are some that we even claim to follow at times but we don’t really…..I swear when I start my own venture someday InshAllah (oh yeah don’t be surprised…I hav been infested by this entrepreneurship germ…details later) I’m going to make everyone in my organization follow the processes that we decide to follow STRICTLY… yes I can be cruel at times but for a combined benefit because all these processes can really save us from disasters and I’m going to make my team understand this. I really get annoyed when every individual starts modifying established processes so as to make them fit his/her comfort zone…arrggg!!
and what is this "Khair hai"…I hate listening to this phrase which people conveniently utter after violating rules
Performance Reviews r being done these days..I just hope I don’t get demoted for being too particular about processes

Take a chill-pill, young lady!
Why not concentrate on the desired end-result and if it measures up to the required specifications, why lose sleep over whether the laid-down procedures have been followed down to the last letter or not?
We are all individuals and tend to have slightly different styles of functioning. So, if the deviation from the set process is not too high, I think there is no real cause for worry.

Parra jee..that’s the problem..if processes r not followed as they should be, we fail to get desired outcome and fail to achieve the purpose of these processes …I hav experienced it so many times
Also, if u give people relaxation once…they just want it always and for everything which is bad
@Qasim
I’m not depressed
and yes I completely agree with u…if we stay on the right track…we can make others follow it too. Nice quote…thanks for sharing!
@Vivek
Welcome to my blog Vivek. It’s always pleasant to meet like-minded people. Checked out ur blog….it seems to have some really cool and truly geeky stuff

This has always been a problem. One has to find the balance between processes and the goals…if there are too many processes then your goals suffer…especially on deadlines…
if there are too less then you may miss out on standardization…processes help…it has been proven time and again…but the people who are in the procedures dept for example….have to evaluate the cost-benefit balance of it also…

Look you missed the meeting with a Grid Computing Guy last night

@UTP
I believe an organization should follow only those processes that can really help it achieve its goals in a professional manner rather than hinder the progress….I agree that when any organization starts implementing new processes, they do tend to slow them down a little but the sad thing is some people just worry about that small lag and can’t foresee the disaster that may hit them 2-3 months down the road if processes r not followed properly.
You are right that there should be a group which should review the pros and cons b’coz in everything there’s always a trade off
@M. Qasim
“You didn’t ask who said that?” You mean how did I come to know u r coming to SI sesion 4? Well, if that’s ur question then I would say see what Jehanara said on her blog, “We bloggers don’t reveal our sources”

I was also there from about 6:45 p.m. to 10:15 a.m. and I was actually looking for u but failed to recognize u. I saw someone in maroon shirt and thought it might be you …..now i don’t know if it really was u because Ali just told me that u were sitting right behind me….however, the guy I’m referring to was sitting at the last seat near the projector screen
Neway..we’ll InshAllah catch up at the next SI session and I would ask Ali to help us recognize each other
@Ali Raza Shaikh

Processes are quite important. But not all-important. We do need to remember that they are just the means to an end, not the end itself. On the other hand, I haven’t really worked with many “Khair hai” people
By the way, I too have been “infested by this entrepreneurship germ”

No, I haven’t been to any SI session. I have subscribed to the P@SHA feed, and will see if I can be there next time. Though apparently they don’t give much time between the announcement and the event.
