A Public Service Message by FarQuest
1. You ought to cover your mouth with ur hand/handkerchief or tissue paper (avoid using dupatta…doesn’t give a good look) when you yawn, cough or sneeze
2. There’s this phrase "Excuse Me"…it costs one nothing to use it..trust me it doesn’t, however, it certainly does cost some muscular energy when you try to push others and get your way out. Use this phrase and CONSERVE ENERGY!
3. Looking on the monitor of the person sitting next to you in a lab, at office or anywhere else unless u r asked to is against etiquettes
4. "Busy" or "DND" status on IM means the person is BUSY…DO NOT DISTURB unless u have something really important to ask or tell. Messages such as "What r u doing?" do not qualify as important or urgent.
5. When the person looks completely engrossed in work and you know his/her deadline to submit work is approaching fast, standing on his/her head and talking about stuff such as "You know I went shopping yesterday or I went for dinner yesterday" is just not appropriate
6. When somebody’s speaking, etiquettes require you to remain silent until he/she completes. Interruption is often irritating.
This Public Service Message is brought to you by FarQuest because it’s author feels victimized when all these etiquettes are not observed

Sorry!

Good work!
Number 1 is definitely top-priority, since sneezing spreads germs otherwise.
BTW, when I used to go to work, I had a pair of earphones stuck in my ears for most of the time that I was at my desk, so people didn’t really bother to bother me until it was something really urgent. Therefore, the fifth one didn’t really apply.
Also, when I am really busy and can’t afford to chat, I generally sign out of instant messenger(s). Really important messages can, at such times, be conveyed through email. I used to have the microsoft outlook/outlook express window minimised at all times. So, number 4 also didn’t really apply.

These habits certainly are annoying to various degrees. I tend to work around these.
1. I haven’t really faced this much. Besides, I like keeping some distance between me and others.

2. You do realize that the obvious response to “Excuse Me” is “Excused”?
3. That’s a rather annoying habit that some people have. But I distrust computers which I don’t control, so I don’t really do anything private on them.
4. When I’m busy, I simply ignore unwanted messages.
5. I have a lot of practice working while someone is talking. Talkers of that variety don’t really pay attention to you. So I shift to auto-pilot, saying “Yeah” and “Oh”
6. I don’t talk all that much, and I’m a good listener. I stay silent unless provoked

Most irritating is 5th one when people come and buzzing gossips or rather pouring hell of questions about current assignment…
Comment by aashely — January 19, 2008 @ 8:29 pm
Ahh, I so very much want to write “Chal Oye”
BTW, when you are busy simply sign out from the messenger thats the best remedy. And point 5 bothers me not much, coz I listen all, but actually listens none
Ask me what someone said I was listening intently in 10 mins and I’ll be like Huh :/
:P
Happy swimming through the real world problems as UTP said

I second your public messages
…. usually people ignore these ethics which is really irritating but we can’t blame people for our failure or lost … so prevention is better

I agree with you whole-heartedly …………..

For me , the most irritating one is addressed by point 3. Being monitored by someone is very irritating. what I usually do, I turn my monitor towards him/her and request him to have a better look and I will carry on my own task later,
. Sometimes when I much pis**d off by them, I ask them straight why are you staring here, don’t you have other things to do.
. This has worked on most of the occasion
