Around a month to go and then I’ll be a graduate Inshallah. I have already started looking for jobs and went to the Job fair at Expo, today. Arranged by Rozee.pk for the first time in Karachi, this job fair was an amazing place to get in touch with around 50 organizations all under one roof. Meeting different employers, I started feeling myself lucky for I feel I’m graduating at the right time with the right kind of skills Alhamdulilah. When I planned to do BS(CS) back in 2003 I guess my mum and bro were the only ones who supported me while the rest said, “Baywaqoof ho, computer sciences ka abb scope nahi raha”. But since I cudn’t do anything but what interests me so I decided to stick to my decision because I was genuinely interested in this field. And now after 4 years, I have no regrets as these days organizations are desperately looking for IT people. Most of the companies in the job fair today were IT/telecom companies and I kinda felt myself flooded with opportunities. However, the bad part is that I being a female was discouraged to enter into fields of networking and telecom (technical side) while these two happen to be my main areas of interest. I met a counselor from PASHA, the IT manager of Ufone and a couple of other people and they said that most of the jobs in these areas require a person to be on call 24/7 so we wud advise u not to go for them. But at the same time I met telenor’s team as well, which is working to end up this stereotyping and has got many females working at the technical side. Then I met the Motorola people who after looking at my percentages and CGPA gave me the title of a “Bookish Girl”….he he….i had to clarify that I’m not a nerd and told them to have a look at my co-curricular activities
. I applied at different software houses as well. After all that my friend and I went to geo’s stall so as get some info abt their IT department but they were looking for news anchors and guess what? I gave the audition
which I guess went really good. I used to be a very good mimic in school days, took part in different skits and plays during my college life and a couple of debating competitions in university life so all this helped.
Overall, it was a great experience to attend such an event, meet people from the professional world and yes i met a lot of my old friends there as well
, however, rite now i’m feeling a little depressed..haven’t yet completed the research paper and my supervisor has emailed me twice…..he wants me to upload the paper for the conference….hai……sunday went all too quickly…..have classes till aroung 6 tomorrow and have an hourly on tuesday…(n-1) chance availed…..when am i going to work on my paper…haiiiiiiiiii……
